Question 1 · Reading
Read the memo. Then answer questions 1 through 4.
Answer: C. Her shift supervisor and the Operations Manager
Dana and Luis work in different departments. The memo says a swap between two departments needs the shift supervisor's approval and must ALSO be approved by the Operations Manager. "Only her own shift supervisor, within 24 hours" is the rule for swaps inside one department, so it leaves out a required approval. Luis's supervisor is never named as an approver.
Question 2 · Reading
Answer: B. It predicts an extreme result without giving support.
The writer claims that paving one lot will lead to a neighborhood of "nothing but concrete" where no one wants to live, with no evidence for that chain of events. This is a slippery-slope argument. The writer does not insult the owners, so it is not an attack on their character, and paragraph 5 contains no numbers.
Question 3 · Mathematics
Answer: B. 7 1/2 cups
Flour per serving: 2 1/4 ÷ 6 = 3/8 cup. For 20 servings: 20 × 3/8 = 7 1/2 cups. "6 3/4 cups" triples the recipe (18 servings), "9 cups" quadruples it (24 servings), and "16 1/4 cups" adds 14 cups because 14 more people are being served.
Question 4 · Mathematics
Answer: B. 2.3 hours
Sum: 237 hours, so the mean is 237 ÷ 9 ≈ 26.3. In order: 15, 18, 20, 24, 24, 28, 32, 36, 40, so the median is 24. Difference: 26.3 − 24 = 2.3 hours. "13.7 hours" uses 40, the middle number of the unsorted list. "5.6 hours" divides the sum by 8 instead of 9.
Question 5 · Listening
Answer: D. Cash. Here's a twenty, so I need $1.50 back.
After the correction the total is $18.50, and $20.00 − $18.50 = $1.50, so "Cash. Here's a twenty, so I need $1.50 back." is right. "Here's twenty-five ... $1.50 back" is the change for the first, wrong total ($25.00 − $23.50), and "$23.50, right?" also keeps the total the cashier corrected.
Question 6 · Reading
Read the job posting. Then answer questions 1–4.
Answer: A. Collecting co-payments from patients
The Duties list says the receptionist will "verify insurance information and collect co-payments," so "Collecting co-payments from patients" is correct. "Translating for Spanish-speaking patients" is tempting because speaking Spanish appears in the posting, but it is listed under Preferred skills, not as a duty. Blood pressure checks and ordering exam-room supplies are never mentioned.
Question 7 · Reading
Answer: A. Only graduates who chose to answer were counted.
The note says the number is "Based on graduates who chose to complete our online feedback form," so "Only graduates who chose to answer were counted." Happy graduates are more likely to fill out such a form, which makes the 9-out-of-10 figure look better than it may be. The note mentions only graduates, not students who quit, and gives no outside group. "Exactly ten graduates" misreads "9 out of 10" as a count instead of a rate.
Question 8 · Mathematics
Answer: A. $8.00
Marked price: $40 × 1.60 = $64. Sale price: $64 × 0.75 = $48. Profit: $48 − $40 = $8.00. "$14.00" uses a 60% − 25% = 35% markup on $40. "$24.00" ignores the sale, and "$16.00" is the discount amount.
Question 9 · Mathematics
Answer: C. 52.2 mph
Time: 145 ÷ 58 = 2.5 h and 90 ÷ 45 = 2 h, so 4.5 h in all. Average speed: 235 miles ÷ 4.5 h ≈ 52.2 mph. "51.5 mph" averages the two speeds, which ignores the different times. "48.6 mph" reads 4.5 hours as 4 hours 50 minutes.
Question 10 · Listening
Answer: D. Sure, I'll have it ready by the fourth.
The start date is corrected to the fifth, and the computer must be ready before then — by the fourth. "By the fourteenth" is based on the fifteenth, the date the manager corrected.
