How the Test Is Scored
Each multiple-choice subtest is reported as a scaled score, and you need a scaled score of at least 200 on each one. Your score depends only on the number of questions you answer correctly, so there is no penalty for guessing. Never leave a question blank.
The essay is scored holistically by two trained raters, and their scores are combined. Under the current passing standards, you need at least 6 out of 8 total points. The official Test Information Guide for the Essay subtest describes what raters look for; read it before test day.
Some questions on a form may be unscored questions being tried out for future tests. You cannot tell which ones they are, so give every question your best effort.
What Kinds of Questions to Expect
After the Test
- For multiple-choice subtests, you usually see an unofficial pass or not-pass result at the testing center.
- Official score reports are released within four weeks of your test date, and they appear in your online account.
- If you do not pass a subtest, you may retake it after 31 days. There is no limit on the number of attempts, and you retake only the subtests you have not yet passed.
- Your passing scores are reported to the Florida Department of Education for your certification file.
