Question 1 · Speaking, Listening, Reading, and Writing Proficiency
Transcript (on the real test you hear this audio): Noticiero matutino, Ciudad de México.
The broadcast reports that Line 3 will be closed this weekend for track maintenance and that free buses will run along Insurgentes. Nothing is said about building a new line or about an accident, and the buses are a temporary measure ("el servicio normal se restablecerá el lunes"), not a permanent replacement.
Question 2 · Speaking, Listening, Reading, and Writing Proficiency
Transcript (on the real test you hear this audio): Noticiero de radio desde Santo Domingo, República Dominicana.
The ministry says several schools are serving as shelters ("albergues") for families who lost their homes and others need urgent roof repairs after the rains. A strike, missing textbooks and disease outbreaks are not mentioned.
Question 3 · Speaking, Listening, Reading, and Writing Proficiency
Answer: C. Nostálgico y conmovido
The narrator returns to the notebook after the grandmother's burial and understands her legacy "con un nudo en la garganta," an expression of emotion and longing. There is no irony, anger or detachment; the closing realization is tender and grateful, not merely practical.
Question 4 · Speaking, Listening, Reading, and Writing Proficiency
Answer: B. They descend from West Africans and Indigenous Caribbean peoples.
The Garífuna descend from West Africans and Indigenous Island Carib (Arawak-speaking) peoples of the eastern Caribbean; after being deported by the British, they settled on the Central American coast, where their Arawakan language, drumming, and punta survive. They are not of Maya, Basque, or Andean origin, which makes them a key example of African and Indigenous influence in Central America.
Question 5 · Speaking, Listening, Reading, and Writing Proficiency
Answer: B. Teaching Proficiency through Reading and Storytelling (TPRS)
TPRS begins by establishing meaning of target structures, then 'asks a story,' using frequent circling questions to provide many comprehensible repetitions, and follows with reading. Task-based teaching centers on completing a real-world task, the Direct Method lacks the co-created story and structure-establishing phases, and content-based instruction uses academic content rather than a class-built story.
Question 6 · Speaking, Listening, Reading, and Writing Proficiency
Transcript (on the real test you hear this audio): Noticiero de radio en Guadalajara, México.
Cost, parking space and delays in reaching their neighborhoods are not raised in the report.
Question 7 · Speaking, Listening, Reading, and Writing Proficiency
He received a letter in English about some tests, did not fully understand it, and wants to know whether it is mandatory and whether he must sign anything. He does not refuse the test, complain, or ask for a meeting with a specific teacher.
Question 8 · Speaking, Listening, Reading, and Writing Proficiency
The note reassures her that home remains open to her, which is why she still keeps the page in her wallet. The father does not demand an early return (A), the note says nothing about letters (B), and C reduces a tender message to a literal remark about schedules.
Question 9 · Speaking, Listening, Reading, and Writing Proficiency
Answer: B. It unites Catholic faith with Indigenous and mestizo identity and national pride.
According to tradition, the Virgin appeared to Juan Diego, an Indigenous man, at Tepeyac in the sixteenth century, and her dark-skinned image became a symbol joining Catholicism with Indigenous and mestizo identity; Father Hidalgo carried her banner at the start of the independence movement in 1810. The image was not imported as a royal emblem, is not the state seal (which shows the eagle and serpent), and is a Catholic devotion, even though the site was associated with earlier Indigenous worship.
Question 10 · Speaking, Listening, Reading, and Writing Proficiency
Answer: C. Circumlocution, such as "Es una cosa que usamos para unir papeles"
Circumlocution, describing an item or idea when the exact word is unknown, is a key communication strategy that lets learners maintain interaction in the target language and is valued in interpersonal rubrics. Switching to English and stopping to use a dictionary both break the flow of target-language communication, and ending the exchange abandons the communicative goal.
