Who Needs This Test
Georgia's literacy requirement comes from the Georgia Early Literacy Act, which asks that educator certification assessments align with evidence-based literacy instruction. Two literacy assessments meet the requirement:
Candidates completing their field and clinical experience in Georgia and Georgia educators adding a teaching field may both need a literacy test. You can take it at the same time as your content assessment or separately. Requirements can change, so confirm which literacy test your field requires with your preparation program or the Georgia Professional Standards Commission before you register.

How the Test Is Scored
GACE results are reported as scaled scores. The passing standard commonly reported for this test is a scaled score of 220; confirm the current passing score on the official GACE website and on your score report. Your score depends only on the number of questions you answer correctly, so there is no penalty for guessing. Never leave a question blank.
A test form may include questions that are being tried out for future use and do not count. You cannot tell which ones they are, so give every question your best effort.
What Kinds of Questions to Expect
Many stems end with a phrase such as "primarily by:" and are completed by the four answer choices. Read each choice as the end of the sentence.
After the Test
- Follow the score reporting dates posted on the GACE website; official results appear in your online account.
- Your passing score is reported to the Georgia Professional Standards Commission for your certification file.
- If you do not pass, a waiting period applies before you can test again. Check the current retake policy on the GACE website before you reschedule.
