The Two Parts
| Part | Selected-Response Questions | Performance Tasks | Score Weights |
|---|---|---|---|
| One (109) Instructional leadership | 41 | 1 extended data-analysis task and 2 shorter equity and culture tasks | Selected response 40%, tasks 60% |
| Two (110) Human capital management | 26 | 1 video observation task, 1 human capital task with four short assignments, 1 shorter family and community task | Selected response 25%, tasks 75% |
If you take both parts on the same day, plan for 8 hours and 45 minutes, including a 45-minute lunch break. Part Two includes a classroom video of about 15 minutes, played once through a headset; you may take notes while it plays.
What Each Competency Is Worth
| Part | Competency | Selected-Response Items | Share of the Part's Score |
|---|---|---|---|
| One | 0001 Instructional Leadership for Student Success | 25 | 25% selected response and 30% extended task |
| One | 0002 School Culture and Learning Environment | 16 | 15% selected response and 30% shorter tasks |
| Two | 0001 Developing Human Capital | none | 55% through two extended tasks |
| Two | 0002 Family and Community Engagement | 10 | 10% selected response and 20% shorter task |
| Two | 0003 Operational Systems, Data Systems and Legal Guidelines | 16 | 15% selected response |
Notice two things. Human capital, the heart of Part Two, is tested only through writing, so you must practice the video and human capital tasks. Operations and law, by contrast, appear only as selected-response questions.
How the Parts Are Scored
Each part produces a total scaled score from 400 to 600, and you need 520 on each part. Your selected-response score is based on the number of questions you answer correctly, with no penalty for wrong answers, so answer every question. A few questions on any form may be unscored field-test items.
Performance tasks are scored on three qualities: completeness (did you address every part of the assignment), accuracy (did you apply leadership knowledge correctly and accurately use the documents) and depth of support and understanding (did you give specific evidence and sound reasoning). Most tasks use a four-point scale; each human capital short assignment uses a three-point scale. A response that is off task, unreadable, not in English or too short to score is marked unscorable, and a blank response earns nothing.
Your score report also shows a performance index for each competency, from ++++ (well above the passing level) to + (well below it), separately for selected-response questions and performance tasks. Use it to aim your study if you need to retake a part.
Exam Tip: If your score on a part falls within half a standard error of measurement (0.5 SEM) of 520, the official test page says you may apply for a score waiver, so read your score report carefully before you register again.
