An Overview of the Exam
Two subtests · computer-based or online proctored · passing score 240 on each
The OSAT Elementary Education test is part of the Certification Examinations for Oklahoma Educators (CEOE) program, administered by Pearson for the Oklahoma Office of Educational Quality and Accountability (OEQA). Passing both subtests is one of the requirements for Oklahoma elementary education certification. The test is offered as a computer-based test (CBT) at Pearson test centers year-round, Monday through Saturday, and as an online proctored test during scheduled testing windows.
Test Format at a Glance| Subtest | Items | Score weighting |
|---|
| Subtest 1 (150): Reading/Language Arts | About 52 selected-response + 1 constructed-response assignment | Selected response 85% · constructed response 15% |
| Subtest 2 (151): Social Studies/Mathematics/Science/Health, Fitness, and the Arts | About 66 selected-response | Selected response 100% |
Testing Time and Fees| Delivery | Time | Fee |
|---|
| Computer-based test (CBT) at a test center | 4 hours, 15 minutes total appointment time for one or both subtests (includes a 15-minute tutorial and nondisclosure agreement) | $65 per subtest |
| Online proctored | 3 hours for each subtest; the subtests are taken separately | $65 per subtest |
Every Question Has Four Choices
All CEOE selected-response questions have
four response options with one best answer. No reference materials are provided for this test: there is
no calculator and no formula sheet, so plan to compute and recall formulas on your own.
Scoring
CEOE results are reported as scaled scores on a range of 100 to 300, and the passing score is 240 on each subtest. The subtests are scored separately, so a high score on one cannot make up for a low score on the other. You can bank a passing score on one subtest while you retake the other. In Subtest 1, the selected-response section and the constructed-response assignment are combined into one scaled score: selected response counts for 85% and the written assignment for 15%.
Constructed-Response Scoring| Feature | What to know |
|---|
| Scorers | Each response is scored by at least two Oklahoma educators using a standardized scale |
| Score points | 4 (strongest), 3, 2, 1; U = unscorable; B = blank |
| Criteria | Purpose, subject matter knowledge, support, and rationale |
| Length | About 300–600 words is typical |
| Unscorable | Responses that are off topic, illegible, not in English, or lack enough original work |
Plan for the Constructed Response
The single written assignment in Subtest 1 is worth about
15% of that subtest's score, roughly the value of nine selected-response questions. Budget 35–45 minutes for it, and address every part of the prompt.
