Exam Overview
The Praxis Core Academic Skills for Educators tests are administered by ETS and measure foundational skills in three areas: Reading, Writing, and Mathematics. These skills are central to effective teaching and communication, which is why the Praxis Core is a common requirement for candidates pursuing a career in education.
Importance of the Praxis Core
The Praxis Core is widely used by teacher preparation programs and licensing authorities. It evaluates the fundamental abilities teachers need to engage, instruct, and support their students: reading comprehension, written communication, and mathematical reasoning. In many states and institutions, passing the Praxis Core (or an accepted alternative) is a prerequisite for admission to a teacher education program or for licensure, so confirm the current requirement with your state or program. Each test builds on skills educators use daily, from understanding complex texts to explaining ideas clearly and solving problems analytically.
Exam Pattern and Structure
The Praxis Core consists of three separate tests. You may take them individually or together as the Core Combined Test (5752).

Scoring and Passing Requirements
Each test is scored separately on a scale of 100 to 200. Passing scores are set by each state and institution to align with its licensing and admission standards, so verify your specific requirement. Commonly required passing scores are shown below.
