Content Categories on the 8002 Test
| Category | Time | About How Many Questions | Share of Test |

About 10 to 15 percent of the questions place reading and language arts content in a teaching scenario. These Tasks of Teaching questions ask you to choose a text or example for a lesson goal, adapt materials, analyze student work, identify a student's error pattern or decide on the best next step.
Praxis Steps
In states that have adopted Praxis Steps, you can take the whole test in one sitting or take a single Step, which matches one content category. If you pass one category and not the other, you may be able to retake only the Step you need. Check your state's requirements before you schedule.
How the Test Is Scored
Your score is based on the number of questions you answer correctly. There is no penalty for a wrong answer, so answer every question. Some questions may be unscored trial questions, and you cannot tell which ones they are, so treat every question as if it counts. Your raw score is converted to a Praxis scaled score, and each state sets its own passing score. Look up your state on the Passing Scores by State page of the Praxis website.

- Your scores go to the score recipients you chose at registration.
- If you do not reach your state's passing score, use the category results to plan your study and retake the full test or the Step you need, following the Praxis retake policy.
