Question 1 · Program Administration
Answer: C. Conduct a needs assessment using surveys, usage data, and stakeholder input
Data-informed program planning begins with a needs assessment that identifies gaps between current services and what learners and staff need. Rearranging the space may eventually be warranted, but doing it first means acting on assumptions rather than evidence. Purchases and schedule changes likewise should follow, not precede, the assessment.
Question 2 · Organization and Access
Answer: B. Accuracy and currency of the content as confirmed in reviews
For informational titles in a rapidly changing science field, accuracy and currency are the core evidence-based selection criteria, and professional reviews help verify them. Author popularity may affect appeal, but it says nothing about whether the science is correct and up to date. Price and design are secondary considerations.
Question 3 · Teaching and Learning
Answer: D. Only one student can have the title checked out at a time under that license
A one-copy/one-user model mirrors a print copy: one patron at a time, with holds for others. Unlimited simultaneous use is a different, usually costlier, license, and a fixed number of circulations describes a metered model. Educational purpose does not authorize duplicating a licensed ebook.
Question 4 · Teaching and Learning
Answer: B. Mildred L. Batchelder Award titles
The Batchelder Award is given to the U.S. publisher of an outstanding children's book originally published in a language other than English outside the United States and then translated. The Pura Belpre Award is the most tempting choice because it relates to Latino culture, but it honors Latino/Latina creators whose work portrays the Latino cultural experience, not translated works.
Question 5 · Teaching and Learning
Answer: B. Multiple means of representation
Universal Design for Learning calls for multiple means of representation, meaning information is presented in varied formats so all learners can perceive and comprehend it. Multiple means of engagement is tempting, but it concerns motivating and sustaining learners' interest, not the formats in which content is presented. Tiered assignments are a differentiation strategy rather than a UDL principle.
Question 6 · Program Administration
Answer: D. Focus groups with juniors and seniors
Focus groups are a qualitative needs-assessment method that reveals the reasons behind behavior through discussion. Gate counts confirm that few upper-grade students come at lunch but cannot explain why. Circulation reports and search logs are quantitative measures of use that likewise do not capture motivation.
Question 7 · Organization and Access
Answer: C. Retain the title because it supports the current curriculum
Retention decisions weigh several kinds of evidence, and curriculum support is a strong reason to keep a title even when circulation is low; CREW guidelines are applied with professional judgment rather than mechanically. Withdrawing it on the basis of circulation alone ignores the known upcoming curriculum need. A graphic adaptation could supplement but not replace an assigned text.
Question 8 · Teaching and Learning
Answer: D. Metered access that expires after a set number of circulations
Metered licenses let a library lend a title for a fixed number of checkouts or a fixed period before it must be repurchased. Perpetual ownership would not expire after a set number of loans. Simultaneous-use and pay-per-use models charge or limit access differently and would not cause the title to vanish after a specific count.
Question 9 · Teaching and Learning
Answer: C. Schneider Family Book Award
The Schneider Family Book Award honors books that embody an artistic expression of the disability experience for child and adolescent audiences. The Stonewall Book Award is tempting because it also honors representation of a particular experience, but it recognizes books relating to the LGBTQIA+ experience.
Question 10 · Teaching and Learning
Answer: A. Product
Differentiation can target content, process, product, or learning environment; offering choice in how students demonstrate learning differentiates the product. Process is tempting because students work differently, but process refers to how students make sense of content during learning, not to the final demonstration.
