Exam Overview
Howpre-Algebraisassessedingrades6–8
There is no single national pre-algebra exam. Pre-algebra skills are assessed by classroom unit tests and course finals, by state end-of-grade mathematics assessments in grades 6, 7, and 8, and by placement tests that schools use to decide when a student is ready for Algebra I. Each of these sets its own length, time limit, and scoring, but all of them test the same core skills, which this workbook covers.
Where Pre-Algebra Is Tested
| Assessment | Purpose | WhattoExpect |

Ask your teacher or school for the number of questions, the time limit, the question types, and the calculator rules for your specific test. Many items on grade 6 and 7 assessments are designed to be solved without a calculator, so practice computing by hand.
