Question 1 · Leadership and Strategy
Answer: A. Analyze the business strategy to identify its workforce implications
An HR strategic plan must flow from the organization's strategy, so the first step is to translate the expansion plans into workforce needs such as skills, headcount, and timing. Drafting HR goals or benchmarking HR staffing before understanding the business direction risks building a plan that does not support the strategy.
Question 2 · Leadership and Strategy
Answer: A. Set global core principles and let units adapt practices locally
A global-core, local-flex approach preserves consistency on values and key talent standards while allowing practices to be adapted to local law and culture. Imposing US policies risks legal violations abroad, and full local autonomy sacrifices the consistency executives want.
Question 3 · Workforce Planning and Talent Acquisition
Answer: D. Send a pre-adverse action notice with the report and a summary of rights
The FCRA requires a pre-adverse action notice that includes a copy of the report and the summary of rights, giving the candidate a chance to dispute errors before a final decision. A final adverse action notice comes only after that waiting period, and vendor confirmation or a second authorization does not satisfy the notice requirement.
Question 4 · Talent Management
Answer: A. 45 days to consider the release and 7 days after signing to revoke it
Because the release is offered as part of a group termination program, the OWBPA requires at least 45 days to consider it and 7 days to revoke after signing, along with disclosure of the ages and job titles of those selected and not selected. The 21-day period applies only to individual separations, and the revocation period is always 7 days.
Question 5 · Total Rewards
Answer: B. $855.00
The bonus is nondiscretionary, so it must be included in the regular rate: ($16 x 45 + $90) / 45 = $810 / 45 = $18.00 per hour. The overtime premium is half the regular rate for each overtime hour, $9.00 x 5 = $45, for total pay of $855. The figure of $850 incorrectly bases overtime only on the $16 hourly rate, and $810 omits the overtime premium entirely.
Question 6 · Leadership and Strategy
Answer: B. A mission statement, because it defines current purpose and customers
A mission statement explains what the organization does, for whom, and how, in the present tense. A vision statement describes an aspirational future state, and a strategic objective would include a measurable target and timeframe.
Question 7 · Leadership and Strategy
Answer: C. Involve supervisors in refining the system's design and rollout
The resistance stems from feeling excluded and from real concerns about fit, so participation addresses both the cause and the design flaws. Mandates and bonuses may force compliance without commitment, and training does not solve a design problem.
Question 8 · Workforce Planning and Talent Acquisition
Answer: C. Referrals, at $2,500 per retained hire
Cost per retained hire is $90,000 / 27 = about $3,333 for the agency, $24,000 / 8 = $3,000 for job boards, and $30,000 / 12 = $2,500 for referrals, so referrals are most cost-effective. The $1,200 and $3,000 per-hire figures ignore first-year turnover, and the job board's $3,000 retained-hire cost is real but higher than the referral cost.
Question 9 · Talent Management
Answer: B. Analyze
The Analyze phase identifies root causes using tools such as cause-and-effect diagrams and hypothesis testing, which follows defining and measuring the problem. Measure establishes the baseline the team already has, Improve implements solutions once causes are confirmed, and Control sustains the gains afterward.
Question 10 · Total Rewards
Answer: A. Weak line of sight between employee effort and payout limits the plan's effect
Profit sharing rewards results that frontline employees influence only indirectly, so its line of sight is weak, which matches what employees reported. Increasing the pool does not fix the missing link between effort and reward. Deferral reduces immediacy rather than improving motivation, and the evidence does not show employees value only base pay.
