Question 1 · Quantitative
What is the greatest common factor (GCF) of 36 and 60?
Answer: E. 12
The factors of 36 are 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 9, 12, 18, and 36; the factors of 60 are 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 10, 12, 15, 20, 30, and 60. The greatest factor they share is 12. By prime factorization, 36 = 2² × 3² and 60 = 2² × 3 × 5, so the GCF is 2² × 3 = 12.
Question 2 · Sequences
What is the next number in the sequence 3, 6, 12, 24, ...?
Answer: D. 48
Each term is twice the previous term (a geometric sequence with ratio 2), so the next term is 24 × 2 = 48.
Question 3 · Triangles
Which type of triangle has all three sides equal in length?
Answer: A. Equilateral
An equilateral triangle has three equal sides and three equal angles of 60° each. An isosceles triangle needs only two equal sides.
Question 4 · Readingandreasoning
Refer to the passage in Question 56. As used in the passage, "innovations" most nearly means
Answer: D. inventions
"Innovations" are new methods, ideas, or products, and the examples given (electric buses and high-speed rail) are new inventions. "Traditions" is close to an opposite.
Question 5 · Verbal
ABUNDANT:
Answer: C. plentiful
"Abundant" means existing in large quantities, so "plentiful" is the synonym. "Scarce" is its opposite.
Question 6 · Quantitative
What is the least common multiple (LCM) of 6 and 10?
Answer: A. 30
List the multiples: 6, 12, 18, 24, 30 ... and 10, 20, 30 .... The smallest shared multiple is 30. By prime factors, 6 = 2 × 3 and 10 = 2 × 5, so the LCM is 2 × 3 × 5 = 30. The product 60 is a common multiple, but not the least.
Question 7 · Sequences
What is the next number in the sequence 10, 15, 20, 25, ...?
Answer: D. 30
The sequence adds 5 each time, so the next term is 25 + 5 = 30.
Question 8 · Triangles
Which of the following triangles must have one 90° angle?
Answer: C. Right triangle
A right triangle is defined by having exactly one 90° angle. An equilateral triangle has three 60° angles, and scalene and isosceles triangles may or may not contain a right angle.
Question 9 · Readingandreasoning
Refer to the passage in Question 156. In the sentence "Its long tail acts as a rudder, allowing sharp turns," the word "rudder" most likely means
Answer: D. steering device
A rudder is the part of a boat that steers it. The context ("allowing sharp turns") shows that the tail helps the cheetah steer.
Question 10 · Verbal
EXPAND:
Answer: C. increase
"Expand" means to grow larger or increase in size or scope. "Reduce" is its opposite.
