Exam Overview
Texescoresubjects4–8(211)
The Texas Examinations of Educator Standards (TExES) are the certification exams overseen by the Texas Education Agency (TEA) and delivered by Pearson. The Core Subjects 4–8 (211) exam is required for the Core Subjects: Grades 4–8 certificate. It is made up of four subject exams, and you must pass every one of them. Candidates for this certificate must also pass the separate Science of Teaching Reading (293) exam.
Exam Pattern
The exam is a computer-administered test (CAT) made up entirely of selected-response (multiple-choice) questions, each with four answer choices. Many questions present a classroom situation, a student work sample, or a set of data and ask you to identify the concept involved or the most effective instructional response; others test content knowledge directly. You can take all four subject exams in one appointment or take them individually.

Scoring and Passing Requirements
Each subject exam is scored separately on the TExES scale of 100 to 300, and the passing score is 240 on each subject exam. There is no total passing score for the overall exam: results are reported as Passed or Not Passed for each subject exam, and you must pass all four. If you pass some subject exams and not others, you retake only those you did not pass. There is no penalty for guessing, so answer every question.
