The Four Domains
Domains, Weights and Approximate Questions
| Domain | Weight | About How Many Questions | Competencies |
|---|---|---|---|
| I World History | 30% | 30 | 001 to 007 |
| II U.S. History | 36% | 36 | 008 to 015 |
| III Texas History | 20% | 20 | 016 to 018 |
| IV Foundations, Skills, Research and Instruction | 14% | 14 | 019 to 022 |
Domains I and II each combine chronological competencies (eras and events) with thematic ones (geography and culture, government and citizenship, economics, science and technology). A thematic question can draw on any era, so study themes across time, not only period by period.
How the Test Is Scored
Your raw score is the number of scored questions you answer correctly. It is converted to a scaled score from 100 to 300, and you need 240 to pass. Some questions are being tried out for future forms and do not count, but they are not marked, so treat every question as if it counts.
There is no penalty for a wrong answer, so answer every question.
What Kinds of Questions to Expect
Exam Tip: Many wrong choices are true statements about the wrong era, the wrong place or the wrong cause. Before you choose, check that the choice fits the time, the place and the exact relationship the question asks about.
